Along with the NI Open next week, Northern Ireland looks to be the setting for another big sporting event later this year. The Irish Snooker Open will be held in the Titanic Exhibition Centre from the 14th to the 20th of November. This will be the first professional snooker event held in Northern Ireland since 2008 which will help boost the tourism in the city .The world ranking event  will see 128 of the world’s leading snooker stars  face off in a flat draw in the first round of the tournament. It is part of the new Home Nations quartet of tournaments, alongside the English Open, Scottish Open and Welsh Open. Any player who wins all four events in the tournament will receive a massive £1million bonus.

The Home Nations quartet has big money to play for as the total prize money for each of the Home Nations events will be £366,000, with the winner to receive £70,000. Snooker fans will be able to watch all four of the tournaments as they will be shown by Eurosport.

The tournament will provide a boost to the tourism in Belfast with fans and players from around the globe travelling to and staying in the city providing a gain for the many great hotels in Belfast. Attractions within the city such as Botanic Gardens and the Titanic Centre which travellers for the event won’t have to stray very far for will increase in foot traffic.

Belfast’s top player Joe Swail said: “It’s brilliant. Everybody has been asking about having a tournament in Northern Ireland and now we’ve got one for the first time in eight years. In that time every exhibition I’ve done in Belfast has been full. There’s definitely an appetite for a ranking event. Belfast is a brilliant place and I think the event will be a great success.”

Tickets are on sale now and fans are strongly urged to book quickly because demand will be high and certain session are expected to sell out quickly especially snookers fans here at home.
