With the arctic weather conditions in full swing today, dozens of flights to and from Heathrow Airport were cancelled.

The air-traffic service, NATS,  had flight arrivals restriced from around 3pm this afternoon in order to allow ground teams to remove snow from the taxiways and runways at Europe’s busiest airport. Apart from the snow covered runways, it was also de-icing aircrafts that were a concern and an affect on flight departing on time.

Heathrow airport made an announcement for intending passengers: “Wintry weather is forecast at Heathrow and across the UK and airlines will be adjusting their schedule as a result. Travellers were urged to leave extra time for travel as well as to check the status of their flights and only confirmed flight passengers to come to the airport.

What can those travelling from or through Heathrow do?

Thankfully for travellers, there are airlines that are offering re-scheduled trips for those affected by the weather conditions. These airlines included British Airways, Virgin Atlantic and Logonair.

The snow in London has affected flights in and out of Belfast City Airport with two Flybe flights already cancelled. With snow fall looking to continue on into the weekendm this may only be the start of disruptions.
